CVPDC Joins Thriving Communities Program Convening in Washington

The CVPDC was awarded a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Thriving Communities Program (TCP) Technical Assistance Complete Neighborhoods Program Award this year. One of two such awards in Virginia, the initiative will advance a 12th Street Corridor Plan in Lynchburg that supports the Diamond Hill and College Hill historical neighborhoods and advances multi-modal and Transit-Oriented Development along this key community thoroughfare. The TCP program provides USDOT-funded technical assistance for three years to complete a planning project and position it for implementation. USDOT has assigned Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates and EPR PC to work with the CVPDC and project partners the City of Lynchburg and Greater Lynchburg Transit Company (GLTC) in this exciting project.

Worlds of Opportunity Event Exposes Students to Central Virginia Career Possibilities

Employers in Central Virginia frequently cite the need to make students aware of local career options as a way to alleviate talent shortages that exist in key industries. The Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo, held October 14 and 15 at Central Virginia Community College, worked to address the needs of employers by introducing local seventh and eighth graders to a wide variety of occupations.

Commuter Assistance Program Strategic Plan Draft Available for Review

Central Virginia Commuter Services has developed a Strategic Plan, as required by the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), to outline the operating services and resources needed to operate the program in the most cost-effective manner possible. This strategic plan was developed in collaboration with local and state partners. This five-year plan will be updated annually to reflect the dynamic nature of the program operations.
