FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 20, 2026

The Central Virginia Transportation Planning Organization (CVTPO), the federally designated metropolitan planning organization for greater Lynchburg, is leading a transportation planning process for the region’s urban area that will guide future transportation planning and investment over the next 25 years.

Connect Central Virginia 2050 will be the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), the long-term transportation blueprint that establishes regional goals and recommends projects and strategies to improve mobility, safety, accessibility, and quality of life throughout the Central Virginia region.  The LRTP provides the foundation for what will become the transportation priorities through 2050.

Public Input Needed!  As a resident, merchant, business owner, senior, transit rider, student, employee, or anyone who commutes to or through the planning area – you are invited and encouraged to share your views in a 5-minute survey.   Public feedback on things like safety, congestion, pedestrian and bicycle challenges, transit and freight needs will help decision-makers understand community priorities as they develop the long-range plan that will guide transportation policy and future investment decisions.

Amherst Mayor Dwayne Tuggle, CVTPO  Chairman, invites your participation in Connect Central Virginia 2050. “The plan will promote safe, affordable, accessible, and reliable transportation options in our communities.” Mayor Tuggle added, “If you have thoughts about how jobs, schools, stores, parks, and other places you visit can be more accessible to you, please share them with the CVTPO team!”
