Assistance for displaced workers.

Virginia Career Works - Central Region is working with partners at the state and regional level to assist workers impacted by the closure of an industrial plant in the town of Bedford. WINOA USA, a manufacturer of steel abrasives, will be closing its facility in Bedford June 30. 38 employees will be impacted by the closure. Representatives from the Virginia Career Works Lynchburg Center, the Virginia Employment Commission, and the town of Bedford's economic development authority met with employees June 15 to provide information about available resources, including job search assistance as well as financial support for education and skills training in a new career field. Impacted workers are being encouraged to register in the Virginia Workforce Connection, where they can be matched and referred to available jobs that align with their skills and qualifications.
