The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has completed the 2026 Coordinated Human Service Mobility Plan. The CHSM Plan is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s statewide plan to assess transportation services and needs for older adults and people with disabilities. The plan assesses current conditions, identifies strategies to address service gaps, and establishes strategies and goals to address needs. The CHSM will be updated starting in 2026 on a four-year cycle.
In recognition of the unique challenges and opportunities across the Commonwealth, the CHSM plan includes six targeted regional profiles. Bedford County is included within the Alleghany Region, beginning on page 52, and the rest of the Central Virginia Planning District is included within the Western Region, beginning on page 134.
