The Central Virginia Planning District Commission is excited to share the recent awarding of $1,999,843 in CDBG funding to Amherst County for its South Madison Heights Infrastructure Project.
This project was one of 17 projects selected by the Commonwealth to receive nearly $23 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, which will be used to support projects that rehabilitate housing, revitalize downtown districts, and improve water and sewer infrastructure for Virginians.
The South Madison Heights Infrastructure Project will produce infrastructure activities targeted at extending public sewer services to an estimated 51 households within the defined project area of the Lakeland neighborhood in Madison Heights, Virginia, that currently uses aging septic systems. This portion of Amherst County is designated by HUD as 53.10% low to moderate (LMI) income. The grant funding will be used to embark on a multi-phased process to address identified needs and issues in the community from meetings and assessments, with the hope of improving living conditions and the quality of life within the community.
