Representatives of more than two dozen employers greeted job seekers in the Staunton River High School cafeteria on May 28 for the second annual Moneta Job Fair.
The Central Virginia Workforce Development Board and Virginia Career Works were proud to collaborate with the Bedford County Office of Economic Development to support the second annual Moneta Job Fair on Thursday, May 28, at Staunton River High School.
More than 70 job seekers stopped by during the three-hour event, which featured more than a dozen local employers representing a wide range of industries, including home health, propane delivery, education, local government, and manufacturing. New this year, job seekers also received tote “swag” bags with contributions from participating businesses.
“Events like the Moneta Job Fair are incredibly important because they help ensure that job seekers in our rural communities are aware of the opportunities available in Bedford County and across our broader region,” said Traci Blido, Executive Director of the Central Virginia Workforce Development Board. “When we bring employers and job seekers together in a familiar, accessible location, we are helping remove barriers and strengthening connections between local talent and local businesses.”
The Moneta Job Fair began with an idea from Staunton River High School Principal Darcy Parker, who advocated for the event after hearing from parents about the need for more awareness of available employment opportunities in the area. Lauren Thurston, Business Programs Coordinator for the Bedford County Office of Economic Development, was instrumental in organizing this year’s event and inviting employers to participate.
The Central Virginia Workforce Development Board and Virginia Career Works appreciate the continued partnership with Bedford County, Staunton River High School, and the participating businesses that helped make the event a success.
