The Connect Central Virginia 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is underway and quickly moving toward September adoption.
The Central Virginia Transportation Planning Organization (CVTPO), in coordination with local, state, and federal government, transportation providers, and public stakeholders, is updating the Connect Central Virginia 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The LRTP is the foundational plan used to articulate the vision for the future transportation system and prioritize investment in the region’s urban area over the next 25 years.
Thank you to everyone who shared the survey, submitted feedback, and invited us to community events! We received 161 online survey responses. We gathered additional input during visits to the Forest Farmers Market, the Campbell County Grand Summer Reading Finale Street Fair, the Lynchburg City Market, and the GLTC transfer station.
Now, we can turn the full dream project list into a prioritized action plan. The scoring methodology will prioritize projects based on volume/ capacity analysis, survey responses, data from previous planning efforts (including the Central Virginia Safety Action Plan), and projected funding.
The CVTPO will review the Transportation Technical Committee- recommended methodology and the constrained list in August. The CVTPO will review the full LRTP document at the September 17, 2026 meeting.
