Dr. Harvey represented the town of Appomattox on the PDC from 2011-2020.

The Central Virginia Planning District Commission is saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Paul Harvey, Appomattox Town Council member and former Mayor.

Dr. Harvey represented Appomattox Town on the PDC from 2011 to 2020 including serving as PDC Chair in FY 16.

During Dr. Harvey’s year as Chair, the PDC brought several ideas to the table that would become a priority for the organization of the next several years.

Dr. Harvey led the Commission through the Economic Development Administration’s application process to create the region’s first Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

Under Dr. Harvey’s leadership the PDC continued to strengthen relationships with workforce development agencies and worked extensively for road improvements in the rural areas of the region.

Dr. Harvey was always a strong supporter of the concept of a Workforce Development Center on the campus of the Central Virginia Community College and began seeking state funds as early as 2016.

It was during Dr. Harvey’s year as Chair that the PDC first joined with Amherst County in seeking funds for the redevelopment of the Central Virginia Training Center property.
