The Central Virginia Planning District Commission (CVPDC) welcomes Alec Brebner as the new executive director, effective June 1.

Brebner has replaced former executive director, Gary Christie, who retired after 17 years of service.

Formerly serving as the Executive Director of the Crater Planning District Commission, based in Petersburg, Brebner is pleased to bring his leadership and experience to the Central Virginia region.

I’m looking forward to joining the CVPDC team and working with community leaders to plan the region’s future and strengthen the quality of life that is in Central Virginia,” Brebner said.

Brebner will be focused on three key areas of the CVPDC:

  • Transportation (including it's ties to affordable housing)
  • Economic Development
  • Environmental Quality

I think the most fascinating thing about PDCs is that they all have those core three functions, but then it comes down to how those are carried out in each region,” Brebner said to News & Advance in a recent interview.

For the Central Virginia region, Brebner has stressed the importance of building connections and relationships with all of the leaders within the Planning District Commission. Wtih community coordination at his core, Brebner will focus on connectivity that promotes productivity and effectiveness among all of the localities within the region.

We are pleased to have a leader with Alec’s experience and expertise join our regional organization,” said CVPDC Chair Dr. Treney Tweedy. “He brings strong leadership along with community coordination and planning experience that will serve us well.
