central virginia road flooding due to poor stormwater/flooding management

The CVPDC received a $54,000 Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund award from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), matched by $6,000 local funds, to develop a Regional Resiliency Plan.

The Resilience Plan will help inventory and evaluate areas prone to stormwater/flooding issues and develop strategies to respond, especially flooding that occurs in vulnerable neighborhoods. The Plan will also establish a prioritization of projects and a foundation for future grant programmatic and implementation funding.

Development of a resiliency plan, including the identification, evaluation and prioritization of flood mitigation projects is an identified action from the CVPDC Hazard Mitigation Plan 2020 Update, approved by FEMA February 9, 2021, and adopted by all ten CVPDC localities.

The plan will be developed under the guidance of a consultant firm and will begin in earnest in mid-spring 2023.
