Connect Central VA 2050 LRTP Public Comment Period

Connect Central Virginia 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan 30-day comment period is open now.

Connect Central VA 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan is now open for thirty days of public comment. 

The Central Virginia Transportation Planning Organization (CVTPO) invites the public to review and provide comments on Connect Central Virginia 2050, the region’s urbanized area Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).  The Plan establishes priorities and strategic direction for transportation programs and project investment for the next 25 years.

Connect Central Virginia 2050 is the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and establishes long-term planning priorities and project investment recommendations to advance a regional multimodal transportation system that will support the diverse needs of individuals and businesses and support growth, economic vitality and quality of life for the region. 

The Plan identifies a  list of 115 near-term, mid-term, and long-term projects that can reasonably be anticipated to be advanced from the approximate $1.3 billion estimated to be available to support new transportation improvements through 2050.   Factors including safety, future growth, travel demands, land use, economic development, system reliability, and anticipated funding were considered in project identification and scoring.   The LRTP will be used by local, state, and federal governments to guide transportation investment decision-making over the next 25 years.

Of the estimated $1,026,977,109 funding estimated, $177,389,655 is near-tern, from FY 26 to 32; $259,516,534 is mid-term, from FY33 to 39.; and $590,070,921 are long-term, from FY40 to 50. Of the $1,018,336,411 project costs, $15,434,457 is debt service, $85,547,432 is committed projects, $435,655,757 is current projects, $218,913,013 is current applications, and $262,785,752 are the remaining constrained projects.

 

 How to Review and Provide Comment

Connect Central Virginia 2050 is available for a formal 30-day public review and comment period from September 18 through October 19, 2026.   The 2050 LRTP is available online at www.connectcentralva2050.com.  The public can review and provide comments on the long-range transportation plan via:

The LRTP was developed by the Central Virginia Transportation Planning Organization, or CVTPO, the federally designed metropolitan planning organization,  in coordination with federal, state, and local governments, transportation providers, community stakeholders, and the public.  The Central Virginia Planning District Commission (CVPDC) houses the CVTPO.  Funding for the LRTP was provided through transportation funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), and the CVPDC, the fiscal agent of the CVTPO.
