Amherst County was awarded a grant to enhance the James River protection and recreational opportunities.

Amherst County has been awarded a National Park Service – Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) grant.  The RTCA is a nationally recognized program that provides localities 300 hours support from NPS recreational program staff to facilitate outdoor recreation initiatives.  The Amherst grant, which includes project partners Lynchburg City, James River Association and the CVPDC, will help guide a community planning process to enhance James River protection and recreational opportunities.  This project supports the Regional CEDS – Initiative 10 Goal “Advance a Regional Riverfront Vision that seeks to unlock the region’s riverfronts, better connecting and integrating local communities with the James, Roanoke and Staunton Rivers”.  We look forward to sharing more as this project begins in the coming months.    Learn more about RTCA here
