The Central Virginia Planning District Commission met on March 19, 2026, for its regular meeting. Appalachian Power’s Rob Mann dropped by to discuss the Valley Link high-power transmission line extending 115 miles from its Joshua Falls site to Culpeper County.
An auditor from Robinson, Farmer, Cox Associates presented the agency’s financial statements for the previous fiscal years.
Staff distributed a summary of the CVPDC’s economic impact in Central Virginia. Every local dollar that local governments invest in the CVPDC and Central Virginia Workforce Development Board yields another six dollars in state and federal revenue. This 6:1 economic impact does not include pass-through revenues like the CVPDC Affordable Housing Development program, a $2 million investment in 101 new homes in Central Virginia.
At its final meeting of Fiscal Year 2026, the Commission will take up a recommendation from its Executive Committee for a work plan and budget for the next fiscal year. Staff will also provide an update on its progress on the Central Virginia Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.
Suggestions for speakers from Planning District Commissioners are very welcome! Staff frequently invites subject matter experts to speak to the Commission about highly relevant, current topics like power transmission, regional health care, data centers, as well as project partners and funders working for prosperity in Central Virginia. The May 21 meeting agenda has an opening.
