New installations have made a significant impact on reducing odors at the regional landfill.
A new gas collection system has been installed which collects methane and other gasses using a network of 13 vertical landfill gas extraction wells. The collection system is gathering an estimated 1000 cfm of gas which is combusted in a large landfill gas flare system.
Additionally, an odor neutralizing system and 2,600 foot of eight-inch diameter pipe have been installed surrounding the active landfill area distributing an odor neutralizer vapor 24/7.
Also, landfill operators employ other odor mitigation methods during the operating day such as utilizing an odor neutralizing misting machine near the working face of daily operations and ensuring that the proper cover is applied to the working face at the end of each day.
