The Census defines Traffic Analysis Zones (TAZ) as special-purpose geographic entities delineated by state and local transportation officials for tabulating traffic related data from the decennial census that is used for transportation modeling exercises.
Region 2000 staff worked alongside planners from the localities within the MPO area to provide the critical inputs to the transportation model including current and projected population, employment, automobile, and household data. Data used to inventory these inputs included parcel data from each jurisdiction to project new development patterns and trends. Projected data was derived from the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the Virginia Employment Commission, as well as future land use maps from the localities. The full report can be viewed under the Transportation Studies page on the CVMPO’s website.
