GO Virginia was established by the General Assembly to provide an additional economic development and incentive resource to communities who are willing to work together on economic development projects. Lynchburg, Roanoke and the New River Valley have been approved to be Region 2 in the GO Virginia system.
The Region 2 GO Virginia Board has been selected the following community leaders to represent the Region 2000 area:
- Dr. John Capps, Central Virginia Community College
- Kenneth Craig, Liberty University
- Beverly Dalton, English Construction
- Watt Foster, Foster Fuels
- Rex Geveden, BWXT
- Floyd Merryman, Sonny Merryman, Inc.
- John Putney, Town of Bedford IDA
- E. W. Tibbs, Centra Health
- Shannon Valentine, Commonwealth Transportation Board
Raymond Smoot of the New River Valley was selected as Chair and Ab Boxley of Roanoke was selected as Vice Chair.
Communities will be invited to propose projects where GO Virginia funds will leverage private and public resources to create high paying jobs.
