On April 9th and 10th, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance, the Central Virginia Workforce Development Board, most of the schools in the Central Virginia region, and countless community volunteers, came together to coordinate the first Worlds of Opportunity Regional Career Expo.

This joint effort was the first step in Career Pathway Development initiatives that seek to better connect all students in the region to information on high-demand occupations and employers in our area.

To help guide academic and career planning, the Expo provided an opportunity for over 3,700 middle and high school students from public, private and homeschools in our region hands-on career exploration.  Students were able to work directly with career professionals, experiencing the types of work performed in our regional businesses.

In an effort to capture and build on the momentum of this successful event, additional print and web-based resources are currently being developed to further assist students, parents and educators explore career choices available with employers in our region.

The Expo was ultimately successful through the financial support of several corporate sponsors, local organizations, and GO Virginia.

Please visit the Virginia Career Works Central Region for additional information on career services available in our community.
